1. Who we are

The full allocation is at Where We Sell and Who You Buy From, and your order confirmation names the company before you pay.

2. The ombud scheme — for transactions with Ralph Jacobs SA (Pty) Ltd
We are bound by the Consumer Goods and Services Industry Code of Conduct, approved under section 82 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, and we fall under the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) — the industry ombud for the goods and services we supply.
That means you can take a complaint about us to the CGSO free of charge if we have not resolved it to your satisfaction.
| Read the Code | https://www.cgso.org.za/cgso-code/ |
| Lodge a complaint | https://www.cgso.org.za |
| Call | 0860 000 272 |
| +27 81 335 3005 | |
| info@cgso.org.za | |
| Office | 292 Surrey Avenue, Ferndale, Randburg |
| Cost to you | Free |
We do not belong to any other self-regulatory or accreditation body.
For transactions with Ralph Jacobs NZ Limited, New Zealand has no compulsory ombud scheme for jewellery retail. Your escalation routes are the Disputes Tribunal, the Commerce Commission and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner — see Complaints.
Please come to us first — see Complaints and CGSO — but you are not obliged to, and nothing stops you approaching the CGSO, the National Consumer Commission or a court.
3. Your right to cancel an online order — for transactions with Ralph Jacobs SA (Pty) Ltd
If you bought from us electronically in South Africa, section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you seven days to cancel without giving a reason and without penalty:
- for goods, seven days from the day you receive them; and
- for services, seven days from the day the agreement was made.
You pay the direct cost of returning the goods. We refund you within 30 days of the cancellation.
This right does not apply to everything. The Act itself excludes certain purchases, and the ones that affect us are goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised. So a bespoke ring made to your design, an engraved piece, or a stone sourced to your brief is not covered by the seven-day right.
Where that exclusion applies to your order, we tell you before you pay — on the product page and again at checkout.
This is not your only right. The seven-day right sits on top of your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, including the right to goods that are of good quality and fit for purpose, and the right to return defective goods within six months. See our Returns Policy and Warranty and Care.
If you bought as a result of direct marketing, section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act gives you a separate five-business-day cooling-off right, running from the later of the day the agreement was concluded or the day the goods were delivered to you.
For transactions with Ralph Jacobs NZ Limited, New Zealand law does not give a general change-of-mind cooling-off right. Your protection is the Consumer Guarantees Act, and our discretionary returns still apply. If your order is delivered in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you have 14 days to change your mind under the law there. See Returns and Where We Sell.
4. What we tell you before you order
Before you place an order we show you:
- what the item is, and its main characteristics — including whether it is made to order or sourced, and whether a stone comes with an independent laboratory report;
- the full price in your currency, including VAT or GST where it applies;
- delivery costs, and any administration or payment fee;
- for international orders, whether import duties and taxes are included or payable by you on arrival;
- how long dispatch or delivery will take, including any longer period for a made-to-order piece;
- which Ralph Jacobs company you are contracting with;
- the payment methods available to you; and
- links to these terms and policies, which you can save and print.
Before you finally place the order you get the chance to review it, correct any mistake, and back out. If we do not give you that chance, the Act allows you to cancel within 14 days.
5. Keeping a record of your purchase
We email you an order confirmation and an invoice. Your order history is available in your account on our online store.
The version of these terms that applies to your purchase is the version published when you placed the order. Every version we have published, with the dates it applied, is kept at ralphjacobs.org/versions/.
6. Security and your personal information
Our checkout and payment pages are secured, and card payments are processed by approved payment providers. We do not store your full card number.
If you are paying us by electronic funds transfer, read Payments and Verification section 2A first. We publish our banking details in one place only, and we ask you to confirm them with us by telephone before you pay. Invoice interception fraud is common and a phone call is the only reliable protection against it.
How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy.
Because we deal in high-value goods, South African law requires us to verify identity and, in some cases, source of funds. What that means for you is explained in Payments and Verification.
7. Access to information
For transactions with Ralph Jacobs SA (Pty) Ltd, our PAIA Manual, prepared under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000, is at ralphjacobs.org/paia/. PAIA applies to South African private bodies, so there is no equivalent manual for Ralph Jacobs NZ Limited — New Zealand access and correction rights are covered in our Privacy Notice.
Our Information Officer is Rikus Kotzé and our Deputy Information Officer is Sameeya Dinat, both registered with the Information Regulator under registration number 2026-067180.
8. Buying from outside our home markets
Which Ralph Jacobs company you contract with, which country’s consumer law applies, and what tax or duty you can expect are set out in Where We Sell and Who You Buy From.
8A. Trade marks and content
RALPH JACOBS, the RJ monogram, the quatrefoil lattice and JEWELFIX are trade marks of Rikus Kotzé, used under licence by Ralph Jacobs SA (Pty) Ltd and Ralph Jacobs NZ Limited. Some are registered in some countries; we use the registration symbol only where a mark is registered.
The text of these legal pages, the Jewellery Care and Safety Guide, and our photographs and website content belong to Ralph Jacobs SA (Pty) Ltd, and Ralph Jacobs NZ Limited uses them under licence. You may print, save or share them for your own use, for example to keep a copy of the terms that applied to your order. Do not copy them for commercial use without our written permission.
Designs and CAD files for your commission are covered in Bespoke and Custom Jewellery section 7.
